Triad Business Activity Continues to Remain Flat
Reviewing the latest TBI and it seems that business activity in the Triad continues to remain flat, unlike other urban areas in our state, such as Charlotte and Raleigh.
Most business owners in the Triad find these results frustrating, including myself. However, the driving factor can be tied back to two important variables – corporate recruitment and population growth, both are lacking in the Triad region.
Economic developers in the Triad are not attracting major corporations to relocate into the area, so that keeps a real cap on the ability of the Triad economy to expand. Not to mention, lack of population growth constrains economic growth in a variety of areas, our current population growth is around 1.5-2% and the anemic rate makes it challenging for private companies to expand.
The Triad is still searching for an identity and hopefully as we continue to transition away from legacy manufacturing, furniture, and textiles – we can begin to restore healthy growth rates to our regional economy.
