My Experience: ‘Developing Excellence’
This summer has been a fantastic experience in many regards. Though the work has often been strenuous and consuming, I have learned much about the real estate industry, working with others, and myself on a professional and personal level. The Developing Excellence Program has shone light on my career path and has given me direction in the aforementioned areas.
In terms of tangible real estate analysis skills, I have been very pleased with the amount I have learned. I’m looking forward to going back to class and realizing that I am bounds ahead of most other students when it comes to this kind of analysis. Working with Wharton Gladden deals and case studies has given me hands-on experience that I have not been able to duplicate in the classroom. In addition, it has given life to many of the classroom lessons I have received thus far in my college career. I am able to speak with much confidence about the skills and experiences I have had professionally and look forward to using them in future interviews as well as in conversation with all who have interest in my career. I am confident that wherever I go next, all of the skills I have developed will be very useful and relevant.
In addition to the technical skills I have developed, the personal growth I have experienced this summer has been one of, if not the, biggest challenges and accomplishments. Working with new people can certainly be challenging when there are different backgrounds, ideals, and work methods, but working with this group of Summer Associates has certainly taught me how to maximize other’s strengths and determine where I fit into the puzzle. Though everyone at Wharton Gladden has been very helpful in my development, working with Mr. Cash has shown me what it takes to be a very successful business owner. His determination, hard work, and persistence are some of the most exemplary I have seen anywhere. I’m looking forward to taking some of the characteristics I have seen and admired in him and applying them to my professional life.
I am very thankful for this opportunity to work with such bright and driven people. I would like to thank Mr. Cash, as well as everyone else at Wharton Gladden for allowing me to make the most of this summer and for offering assistance whenever possible. I would like to thank the other interns for teaching me about how I work best as well as how I work with other types of people. I am very appreciative of the new relationships I have formed and look forward to staying connected with everyone at Wharton Gladden, as well as the external partners I have formed during the summer. I am more excited than ever to move forward in my career using the many skills and experiences I have developed. Best of luck to the other Summer Associates as they move forward in their own careers as well as Wharton Gladden as it moves forward and continues to grow as a very reputable investment bank.
