2014 ‘Developing Excellence’ Summer Internship Program
(GREENSBORO, NC) July 10, 2014 – Boutique investment bank Wharton Gladden & Company recently welcomed six college students to take part in its summer internship program. As part of the ‘Developing Excellence’ summer associate program, the students will research and practice in the areas of real estate finance, and will complete a service project raising funds for the firm’s Power of One charitable fund.
“Our summer associates are recruited from the top universities in the state,” said Wharton Gladden Managing Director Algenon Cash. “They contribute essential research and insight that directly impact our firm’s clients, and at the end of the summer they will come away with the kind of knowledge of a subject that only comes from getting down in the trenches and practicing it.”
The summer associates are:
Sarah Brooks, a rising sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill. Sarah is originally from Chapel Hill, and her majors are economics and pre-business. “I am excited about developing personally and professionally. I’m looking forward to spending my summer learning from the motivated and passionate Algenon Cash, and getting to know my fellow associates through volunteer work and interactive group projects,” she said.
Alex Francis, a rising junior from Lexington, N.C., who is a finance major at Elon University. “I am very grateful and excited to be a summer associate with Wharton Gladden, and I look forward to learning valuable professional financial and investment skills, as well as growing as a person both personally and professionally with such an impressive company,” he said.
Katherine Green, a rising senior at Wake Forest University from Washington, D.C., who has a major in finance and a minor in history. “Wharton Gladden provides a collaborative experience to work with professionals and gain a thorough understanding of every component of real estate banking,” she said. “We will have hands-on experience with a type of banking that isn’t always covered in the classroom. I’m looking forward to all of it.”
Thomas Hostetler, a rising senior at Elon University, from Durham, N.C. “I’m extraordinarily happy and excited to be a part of the Wharton Gladden team,” he said. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to learn from Mr. Cash and I hope to soak up the values and philosophies of Wharton Gladden, as well as gain hands-on, useful knowledge and skills.”
Stephen Long, a rising sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill from Greensboro, N.C. “The Developing Excellence summer internship program offers a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in the financial sector in a way that teaches us necessary skills for our career while working with the community,” he said. “I’m excited to start working on some of our projects and getting to know my other colleagues.”
Prashanth Sai Sanker, a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill earning a major in economics and a minor in computer science. “During the course of this program, I look forward to gaining a better understanding of the principles and workings of the banking and finance fields,” he said. “Through Wharton Gladden, I will undoubtedly be able to get invaluable first-hand experience and expand my personal network. I look forward to working with the Wharton Gladden team, as it is filled with highly passionate and motivated individuals.”
Wharton Gladden welcomes undergraduate and graduate students to take part in the ‘Developing Excellence’ program each summer. The internship includes interoffice and field study. If a prospective transaction comes under engagement during the course of the study program, the student may receive the option to work on a live transaction.
